Deconstructing the Kitchen

Friday, April 1, 2016

We have been working non stop on North Baker. It has been fun, exciting and inspiring. It has also been gross, smelly, enlightening and often a little discouraging. A definite roller coaster of emotions. After tearing up the laminate flooring and solving the mystery of what the floors were and what we would be able to do with them we moved on and tackled the demolition of the probably one of the nastiest kitchens. EVER.

Doesn't look so bad right? Well, the yellow insulation that you see was full of roach poop, rat poop and who knows what else, smelly, nasty and encouraged lots and lots of "EWWWWWWWS" from me. Britt all the while rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Gross.
Yes, we wore face masks and gloves though looking back it should have been full Haz Mat suits!

As you can see there were remnants of what was the exterior wall siding but there unfortunately enough to do anything with but still fun to see. The kitchen area was originally the front porch so I am enjoying the original white bead board ceiling so there is something good left of this old house!

Just look at this wonderful plumbing and just utter YUCK!!!! Needless to say it has all been removed and we are moving forward. I will share our progress in the next post!
